A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early. Jim Preston (Chris Pratt) is a mechanical engineer who wants to start a new life on the colony planet. Aurora Lane (Jennifer Lawrence) is a journalist who wants to write a story about the journey.
